Norfolk robber sentenced to more than two years in prison

A Norfolk man has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for robbing cashiers at two separate stores in the area. On June 29, 2023, 48-year-old Christopher Scott Painter entered a 7-Eleven on Colley Avenue, claiming to have a gun and stealing several dozen cigarette cartons. Just a few weeks later, on July 15, Painter returned to the same 7-Eleven and physically pushed a clerk to steal more cigarettes. An officer with the James City County Police Department (JCCPD) in Virginia found himself in hot water after being indicted on several ‘non-work related’ charges, as per a news release from JCCPD. The officer in question, Caleb Crawford, had been serving with the department since August of 2021. The charges brought against him by the Williamsburg/James City County Grand Jury included malicious wounding, child abuse, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
