Mother from Ohio receives life sentence for leaving toddler unattended during vacation leading to child's death

An Ohio woman, Kristel Candelario, was sentenced to life in prison without parole after leaving her 16-month-old daughter unattended for more than a week, leading to the child’s death. Candelario traveled to Detroit and Puerto Rico, leaving her daughter alone in their Cleveland home. When she returned 10 days later, she found the girl unresponsive and called the police. The 16-month-old was discovered in a playpen covered in urine and feces, leading to her death from starvation and severe dehydration, ruled a homicide by the medical examiner.
