Mother from Ohio receives life sentence for leaving toddler unattended during vacation leading to child's death

An Ohio woman, Kristel Candelario, was sentenced to life in prison without parole after leaving her 16-month-old daughter unattended for more than a week, leading to the child’s death. Candelario traveled to Detroit and Puerto Rico, leaving her daughter alone in their Cleveland home. When she returned 10 days later, she found the girl unresponsive and called the police. The 16-month-old was discovered in a playpen covered in urine and feces, leading to her death from starvation and severe dehydration, ruled a homicide by the medical examiner. Good Samaritan in south Edmonton attacked while attempting to intervene in hit-and-run incident

On a Friday morning in south Edmonton, the police were called to a strange series of events involving a collision and an assault. Three suspects were involved, one of whom had stab wounds. The incident began after a collision near Scona Road and 94th Avenue between a black Ford Fusion sedan and a black Hyundai Sonata. The driver of the Ford attempted to flee the scene but was blocked by a woman driving a silver Dodge RAM pickup truck. The two women in the suspect vehicle then assaulted the woman in the pickup truck, leading to a self-defense action where the woman stabbed one of the attackers. The accused, Paul Black, along with his flatmate, Paul McNaughton, allegedly hatched a plan to steal a substantial amount of money from the victim, Peter Coshan, through a catfishing scheme.
